Andrew Booth worked as the Qualified Environmental Professional within a multi-disciplinary management team as the Environmental Supervisor for the run-in-river Jimmie Creek Hydroelectric Project operated by Alterra Power Corp (now Innergex Renewable Energy Inc). His role was to guide contractor environmental compliance to government regulations and provide guidance and monitoring for works in environmentally sensitive areas. This role required regular liaison with provincial environmental representatives, development of environmental work plans with multi-disciplinary professionals, development of bear deterrence measures, monitoring of blasting near fisheries waters, development of erosion and sediment control mitigation measures, hazardous waste disposal, mountain goat monitoring, songbird nesting surveys, and reporting.
During construction of the hydroelectric project, Jason Baird was responsible for assessing potential damage to fish and fish habitat due to tree felling and the partial infilling of a wetland for access road construction. Jason was also involved during the commissioning phase of the project, which involved monitoring of creek staff gauges to ensure water ramping rates were within DFO guidelines.
The Jimmie Creek Hydroelectric Project won an Environmental Stewardship award from Clean Energy BC in 2017.
As an ISA Certified Arborist, Andrew and Stickleback Environmental have completed many arborist projects in support of real estate development and other project types. This included tree inventories; windthrow likelihood assessments; tree risk assessments; vegetation assessments; illegal cutting assessments and arborist demolition monitoring.
As the QEP, Andrew was the environmental supervisor and monitor for the Coquitlam Duct Banks project for the City of Coquitlam. This complex project consisted of duct bank installation over approximately 4 km and included the subsurface crossing of two creeks. Andrew prepared the initial biophysical impact report, fisheries self-assessments, and acquired two Water Sustainability Act Section 11 Approvals and one of the first Water Sustainability Act Section 10 Short Use of Water Approvals (for construction dewatering) issued in the Province. Andrew also conducted the environmental monitoring of the project with implementation of mitigation measures to successful project completion.
As the QEP, Jason completed fish and aquatic habitat assessments as well as fish salvages at numerous watercourses along the rapid transit line right of way in Port Moody and Coquitlam for the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MoTI). Jason also completed Fisheries Act Authorization and Water Sustainability Act Approval applications for these watercourses and developed riparian planting plans to offset vegetation impacts. Jason also assessed the success of constructed habitat compensation areas at Schoolhouse, Suterbrook, Scott, and Hoy Creeks as part of the long-term monitoring program for these watercourses.
Jason completed an environmental assessment for BC Ferries as part of an Environmentally Sensitive Area (ESA) Development Permit application to the City of Richmond. Responsibilities included collecting and evaluating aquatic and riparian habitat, assessing potential impacts to city-designated Riparian Management Areas (RMAs) and ESAs, completing a 'bio-inventory' report, and submitting environmental permit applications (Water Sustainability Act Approval and Fisheries Act Request for Review).
Jason conducted a fish and aquatic habitat assessment in Joe’s Creek as part of site remediation project on the Department of National Defense’s CFB Esquimalt property in Colwood, BC. As part of the assessment, Jason conducted a fish inventory and habitat assessment, reviewed the environmental assessment report, submitted Water Sustainability Act and Fisheries Act environmental permit applications, and developed riparian vegetation planting plans and instream restoration plans .
